Red lipstick has always felt like a small kind of confidence boost for me. Some days I barely wear anything, but the moment I swipe on a red shade, everything just feels more put together.

I recently tried two slim-style lipsticks that look similar at first glance, but once you wear them, they tell completely different stories.

1. TOM FORD Slim Lip Color Shine in Scarlet Rouge

This one feels like a little luxury every time I use it. The slim shape makes it easy to glide along the lips without overthinking the edges. What I like most is the finish—it’s not flat matte, not overly glossy either. It has this soft shine that makes the lips look alive, not dry. The color itself leans into a rich, classic red, the kind that instantly makes you feel dressed up even if you’re just wearing something simple. It doesn’t feel heavy, and I noticed it fades in a way that still looks nice instead of patchy. It’s the kind of lipstick I’d pick when I want to feel a bit more polished without trying too hard.

2. Essence The Slim Stick in Nice Spice

This one is more relaxed and playful. The texture feels lighter, almost like it doesn’t want to sit too seriously on your lips. The shade “Nice Spice” has a warmer tone, not your typical bold red—it feels softer, a bit more everyday-friendly. I found myself using this when I didn’t want something too intense. It’s easy to apply quickly, even without a mirror sometimes, which says a lot. It doesn’t last as long as the Tom Ford one, but it’s comfortable, and reapplying it feels effortless rather than annoying.

Even though both are “red lipsticks,” they don’t feel the same at all. One leans toward a refined, slightly glossy look, while the other feels lighter and more relaxed. I like having both around, because sometimes I want to feel a bit bold, and other times I just want a hint of color without overthinking it.
