St. George's is compact, steep, colorful, and far better suited to a focused half-day than several days of city sightseeing.

For Lykkers, the strongest strategy is to stay around Grand Anse, enter St. George's early, walk the Carenage and central streets, add one elevated viewpoint, then return to the coast by mid-afternoon.

Three nights in Grenada is the practical minimum, while five to seven nights makes more sense if you also want rainforest and island excursions. For a comfortable three-night stay, budget roughly US$450 to US$800 per person when two travelers share accommodation.

St George's

Set Up the Stay

Your biggest decision is where to sleep. St. George's is worth visiting, but Grand Anse is generally the more convenient base for a short leisure trip because you gain easier beach access and a broader selection of visitor accommodation.

Stay around Grand Anse

Grand Anse sits only several kilometres south of St. George's. Current 2026 listings show simple properties around US$70 to US$110 per night, while many comfortable beachfront or nearby hotels fall around US$140 to US$260. Higher-end resorts can exceed US$400 nightly.

For three nights, a couple should therefore plan roughly US$250 to US$750 for the room, depending heavily on comfort level.

Maurice Bishop International Airport is close to the main tourism zone. The official airport taxi information lists fares of about US$16, while trips to Grand Anse and St. George's are both about US$20.

Do not rent a vehicle merely for St. George's. The centre is compact, streets are steep, and parking adds unnecessary effort. A taxi or local minibus is easier.

Choose January through April

These months fall within Grenada's drier period and are particularly convenient for combining city walking with coastal time. December through April is also a popular visitor season, so accommodation can cost more.

June through November is wetter and overlaps Atlantic hurricane season. Travel remains possible, but keep greater schedule flexibility and check forecasts carefully.

Start St. George's around 08:30. By midday, heat and humidity make its hills noticeably more demanding.

Grenada uses the Eastern Caribbean dollar. US dollars are widely accepted in visitor areas, but change may be returned in EC dollars. The fixed exchange relationship is approximately US$1 to EC$2.70.

Make One Half-Day Count

Do not turn St. George's into a checklist. A practical route takes approximately four to five hours: Carenage first, central streets second, an elevated viewpoint third, then lunch and departure.

Start around the Carenage

Reach St. George's around 08:30 and begin at the Carenage, the horseshoe-shaped harbour that defines the city.

Allow 45 to 60 minutes. Walking costs nothing, and morning gives you cooler conditions before the streets become busier.

Continue toward Market Square and the surrounding commercial streets. Give this section another 45 minutes. Carry US$20 to US$37 if you want spices, fruit, snacks, or small souvenirs, but compare prices before purchasing.

The city is much steeper than photographs suggest. Comfortable shoes matter, and Lykkers with limited mobility should consider using a taxi between the waterfront and higher viewpoints rather than walking every incline.

Add one viewpoint, not five

After the centre, choose one elevated historical viewpoint. Fort Frederick is a practical option because its higher position provides broad views across St. George's and the surrounding coastline.

Allow approximately 45 minutes including the viewpoint and transfer. Entrance arrangements and fees can change, so keep roughly US$4 to US$7 available and confirm the current price locally before visiting.

If panoramic photography is your priority, schedule the viewpoint before noon. Tropical showers can develop quickly, while stronger midday light produces harsher photographs.

Do not fly a drone simply to recreate aerial photographs. Grenada has aviation rules and controlled airspace considerations, particularly because the airport lies nearby. Check current authorization requirements before traveling with one.

Return to Grand Anse after lunch

Aim for lunch around 12:30. A simple local meal may cost roughly US$9 to US$19 per person, while visitor-oriented restaurants can easily reach US$22 to US$44 or more.

After lunch, return to Grand Anse rather than forcing another city attraction into the schedule. A taxi between St. George's and the Grand Anse area can be arranged locally; confirm the fare before departure. Local minibuses are considerably cheaper, with typical short journeys costing only a few EC dollars.

Grand Anse itself extends for roughly 3 km, so reserve the afternoon for swimming, walking, or simply recovering from the humid city route.

For one St. George's day, excluding accommodation, roughly US$56 to US$111 per person is a comfortable allowance covering taxis, lunch, small purchases, and minor admission costs. Travelers relying on minibuses and simple meals can spend considerably less.

The common mistake is staying in central St. George's for several nights when your wider trip is primarily about Grenada's coast. Another is beginning the city walk at midday and underestimating the hills.

For most Lykkers, the better equation is simple: three nights minimum, Grand Anse as the base, roughly four to five hours in St. George's, and US$56 to US$111 for the city day. Enter around 08:30, follow the harbour into the centre, gain one elevated panorama, eat lunch, and return to the coast. That is enough time to understand Grenada's capital without allowing a small city to consume one of your most valuable days.
