Welcome, Lykkers! There’s something extra special about homemade waffles when fresh strawberries are involved. The berries add little pockets of sweetness and fruity flavor to every bite, while the waffle itself stays fluffy in the middle with lightly crisp edges.
This strawberry waffle recipe is simple enough for a relaxed weekend breakfast but delicious enough to feel like a special treat. The batter comes together quickly with basic pantry ingredients, and tossing the strawberries with a little flour helps keep the fruit from sinking too much into the batter.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus 3 tablespoons for coating the strawberries
- 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ cups whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup diced fresh strawberries
- You’ll also need a little cooking spray or additional butter for greasing the waffle iron.

How to Make Strawberry Waffles
1. Prepare the Waffle Iron
- Start by preheating your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions. A properly heated waffle iron is important for getting those beautiful golden edges and an evenly cooked center.
- While it heats, prepare the waffle batter.
2. Mix the Dry Ingredients
- Add 2 cups of flour, 1 tablespoon of light brown sugar, and 4 teaspoons of baking powder to a medium mixing bowl.
- Whisk everything together until the ingredients are evenly combined. Breaking up any lumps at this stage will make it easier to create a smooth batter later.
3. Add the Wet Ingredients
- Pour 1 ½ cups of whole milk into the dry mixture. Add 2 eggs, ½ cup of melted butter, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Whisk the mixture until everything is combined and the batter looks smooth and fairly thick. Avoid mixing longer than necessary. A little gentle mixing is enough to bring the ingredients together.
4. Prepare the Strawberries
- Place 1 cup of diced strawberries in a separate small bowl.
- Sprinkle the strawberries with the remaining 3 tablespoons of flour and gently toss until the pieces are lightly coated.
- This extra step helps the strawberries stay better distributed throughout the batter instead of immediately dropping toward the bottom.
5. Fold the Strawberries Into the Batter
- Add the flour-coated strawberries to the waffle batter.
- Using a spatula or wooden spoon, gently fold the berries into the mixture until they are spread throughout. Try not to overmix the batter. The strawberries contain juice, and excessive stirring can release more of it into the batter and give it a pinkish color.
- You want the berries incorporated without crushing them.
6. Cook the Waffles
- Once the waffle iron is hot, lightly coat the cooking surface with cooking spray or brush it with a little butter.
- Scoop approximately 1 cup of batter into the center of the waffle iron, depending on the size and design of your appliance. Close the lid and cook according to your waffle maker's instructions.
- Cook until the waffle is golden brown and cooked through. Cooking times can vary between waffle irons, so use the manufacturer's recommended timing as your guide.
- Carefully remove the finished waffle and repeat with the remaining batter.
7. Add Your Favorite Toppings
- Serve the strawberry waffles while they’re warm. For a classic finish, drizzle them with maple syrup and add a spoonful of whipped cream.
- You can also add extra sliced strawberries for even more fresh berry flavor. A light dusting of powdered sugar is another simple option when you want something sweet without making the waffles feel too heavy.

Fresh strawberries turn an everyday waffle into something bright, sweet, and extra satisfying. With a simple batter, a handful of ripe berries, and a few minutes in the waffle iron, you can make a breakfast that feels homemade without requiring much effort. Keep the waffles warm, add your favorite toppings, and enjoy them while the edges are at their crispiest.
