Cappuccino is a classic Italian coffee drink that balances strong espresso with creamy, airy milk. It’s made of three parts: one-third espresso, one-third steamed milk, and one-third frothed milk.
The result is a rich, aromatic coffee with a smooth, creamy texture and beautiful layers. At home, we can recreate this café experience with fresh ingredients and a little care. It’s not just a drink—it’s a small daily luxury that awakens our senses and brightens our morning.
What We Need
Ingredients (for 2 cups, 200ml each):
- Fresh coffee beans: 20g
- Whole milk: 250ml
- Coffee grind: medium-fine
- Optional: sugar or sweetener, to taste
Tools:
- Coffee grinder (hand or electric)
- Espresso machine or stovetop brewer
- Tamper
- Small saucepan
- Whisk or milk frother
- Two 200ml clear coffee cups
- Large and small spoons for layering
Step 1: Grinding the Coffee
1. Measure 20g of fresh coffee beans.
2. Grind to a medium-fine consistency. Hand grinding is preferred to preserve aroma, but an electric grinder works too.
3. Ensure the grounds are even; this ensures smooth, balanced espresso.
Step 2: Preparing the Espresso
1. Scoop the ground coffee into a two-cup filter basket.
2. Use a tamper to press the coffee evenly and firmly. Apply pressure evenly in all directions.
3. Brew two shots of espresso (~60ml per cup) using an espresso machine or a stovetop espresso maker. The espresso should be rich, smooth, and slightly thick.

Step 3: Making the Milk Foam
1. Pour 250ml of whole milk into a small saucepan (fill only half the pan to leave room for frothing).
2. Heat the milk gently over low fire—never let it boil.
3. Begin whisking slowly to form small bubbles, then whisk faster to create airy froth.
4. Once the milk volume roughly doubles, stop whisking.
5. Let the pan sit for 30 seconds to separate the dense steamed milk at the bottom from the light frothed milk on top.
Step 4: Assembling the Cappuccino
1. Take a 200ml clear coffee cup.
2. Use a large spoon to hold back the top frothed milk and pour about 70ml of steamed milk (1/3 of the cup) into the bottom.
3. Spoon in approximately 70ml of frothed milk (1/3 of the cup) on top of the steamed milk.
4. Pour 60ml of espresso (1/3 of the cup) carefully over the milk layers.
5. Optional: sprinkle a little cocoa powder or cinnamon on top for extra flavor.
Step 5: Enjoying the Perfect Cappuccino
Now we have a café-style cappuccino at home. The espresso aroma mixes with the creamy milk, filling the room with a comforting scent. The layers are visually pleasing, and each sip blends bold coffee with smooth milk foam. Making cappuccino at home is not just about drinking coffee—it’s about enjoying the process and the sense of accomplishment.

Making cappuccino at home is more than just a coffee routine—it’s a moment to slow down, enjoy the process, and reward ourselves. From grinding the beans to whisking the milk and layering the cup, every step adds to the satisfaction of creating something special with our own hands.
