Adorable Pets
When the weather turns cold, we may notice that our cats suddenly change their daily habits. They may choose softer bedding, curl up in warmer corners, or spend more time close to us.
These small changes are easy to overlook, but they can tell us how comfortable our furry companions feel. By paying attention to their sleeping positions and favorite places, we can better understand when they may need a little extra warmth.
Why Cats Look for Warmth
A cat's coat provides natural protection, but it does not mean every cat feels comfortable in cold weather. Young cats, older cats, cats with shorter coats, and smaller cats can be more sensitive to low temperatures. Indoor cats may also notice seasonal changes when the room becomes cooler at night.
We can watch sleeping positions, favorite locations, and daily behavior instead of guessing. These details can help us decide whether a warmer resting area would be useful.
Sign One: Sleeping in a Tight Curl
One clear sign is a tightly curled sleeping position. We may see our cat pull its paws close, lower its head, and curl its body into a small shape. This position helps conserve warmth while the cat rests.
If we notice this more often on colder nights, we can check the temperature around its bed. Adding a soft blanket or moving the bed away from a window can provide extra comfort without changing the whole room.

Sign Two: Choosing Unusual Sleeping Spots
A cat that suddenly changes its favorite sleeping location may be looking for warmth. We might discover it resting under furniture, inside a covered bed, beside a cushion, or in another sheltered corner.
Instead of moving the cat away immediately, we can observe why it prefers that place. If the spot is warmer and protected from drafts, we can create a similar but safer resting area nearby. A covered bed in a quiet corner can give the cat a comfortable alternative.
Sign Three: Sleeping Close to Us
Some cats become more interested in staying beside us when the weather gets cooler. A cat that usually sleeps alone may climb onto the bed, settle near our feet, or curl up beside us during the night.
Our body warmth can make the area feel pleasant. We can also place a soft bed nearby so the cat has another comfortable option. This gives it the freedom to choose where it wants to rest while staying close to us.
Sign Four: Shivering While Resting
Shivering deserves extra attention. When a cat becomes too chilly, we may notice small, repeated movements while it is sitting or resting. If this happens, we can move the cat to a warmer, dry area and provide a soft covering.
Then we can watch its behavior. If the shivering stops after the cat becomes warm and relaxed, the temperature may have been a factor. If it continues despite a comfortable environment, we should consider other possible reasons and contact a veterinarian for professional advice.
Sign Five: Staying Near a Heat Source
During colder months, cats often become interested in warm parts of the home. We may see them resting near a heater, warm vent, or another source of gentle warmth.
We should give them enough room to move away whenever they want. Instead of allowing direct contact with a heating device, we can place a comfortable bed at a safe distance. A thick blanket and a sheltered location can provide warmth while allowing the cat to control its own comfort.
Creating a Cozy Resting Area
We can make a warm resting space with simple items. A soft, washable blanket, a comfortable bed, and a quiet corner away from doors or windows are often enough. We can also check the bedding regularly and replace it when it becomes damp or cold.
Keeping the area clean and dry is just as important as adding warmth. Our goal is to give the cat a comfortable place where it can rest peacefully and move away whenever it feels warm enough.
Look at Several Signs Together
One behavior alone does not always tell us exactly how a cat feels. We can look at several changes together, such as curling tightly, choosing warmer locations, seeking our company, shivering, or staying near a heat source.
When several of these behaviors appear at the same time, we can pay closer attention to the room temperature and sleeping area. Simple adjustments may make a noticeable difference.

Let’s Keep Our Cats Comfortable
Lykkers, winter gives us a good reason to observe our cats a little more closely. If we notice these five signs, we can offer a warm, dry, and quiet place for rest while allowing our furry friends to choose where they feel most comfortable.
Have you noticed your cat showing any of these behaviors? Take a look at its favorite sleeping spot tonight. A small change from us can help make chilly days and nights much more comfortable for our beloved companions.
