Welcome, Lykkers! Sometimes a regular milkshake simply is not enough. When I am craving something seriously chocolatey, creamy, and completely over the top, a chocolate freakshake is the kind of dessert I want.
The best part is that it looks impressive without requiring complicated baking skills. You can prepare the milkshake itself in just a few minutes, then have fun decorating the glass with all your favorite sweet treats.
Ingredients
For the Chocolate Milkshake
1 cup chocolate milk
2 scoops chocolate ice cream
1/2 cup milk, such as regular, almond, or oat milk
For Decorating the Glass
- 2 tablespoons mini marshmallows or marshmallow fluff
- 1 tablespoon dark chocolate chips
- 1/3 cup chocolate pieces, such as milk chocolate, white chocolate, or chocolate bar chunks
- 2–3 pieces candy, chopped into small pieces
- Chocolate sauce, for drizzling
Optional Toppings
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate sprinkles
- Extra scoop of chocolate ice cream
- Caramel sauce
- Chocolate buttercream
- Small pieces of cake

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Chocolate Decorations
- Start with the chocolate because it needs a little time to cool and set.
- Place your favorite chocolate pieces in a microwave-safe bowl. You can use milk chocolate, white chocolate, or dark chocolate depending on how rich you want the finished shake to taste.
- Melt the chocolate gently in the microwave in short intervals, stirring between each one. You can also melt it over low heat on the stove. Continue until the chocolate is smooth and completely melted.
- Be careful not to overheat it, as chocolate can burn easily.
Step 2: Decorate the Glass
- Choose a tall, sturdy glass or a clear mason jar. A clear glass works especially well because you can see all the chocolate layers and toppings.
- While the melted chocolate is still warm, spread or drizzle some chocolate around the inside of the glass. You can also coat part of the rim with melted chocolate.
- Add a drizzle of chocolate sauce around the inside edge. For an extra dramatic look, let some chocolate sauce run down the sides of the glass.
- Place the decorated glass in the refrigerator for a few minutes if you want the chocolate to firm up slightly before adding the milkshake.
Step 3: Make the Chocolate Milkshake
- Now prepare the creamy base.
- Add 1 cup chocolate milk, 2 scoops chocolate ice cream, and 1/2 cup of your preferred milk to a blender.
- Blend on medium to high speed until the mixture becomes completely smooth and creamy. Stop and scrape down the sides if needed, then blend again briefly.
- The finished milkshake should be thick enough to support the toppings while still being easy to drink through a straw.
- If you prefer a thicker shake, add a little more chocolate ice cream. For a thinner consistency, add a small splash of milk and blend again.
Step 4: Pour Into the Decorated Glass
- Remove the decorated glass from the refrigerator.
- Slowly pour the chocolate milkshake into the glass, leaving a little room near the top for all the toppings. Pouring slowly helps protect the chocolate decoration and keeps the glass looking neat.
Step 5: Add the Chocolate and Candy
- Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of dark chocolate chips over the top.
- Next, add your 1/3 cup of chocolate pieces. Break larger pieces into smaller chunks so they are easier to eat and distribute them across the top.
- Add 2–3 chopped pieces of your favorite candy. Peanut butter cups, caramel-filled candy, cookie dough bites, or chocolate bar pieces all work wonderfully.
- For an extra playful presentation, press a few pieces against the whipped cream or around the rim of the glass.
Step 6: Finish With Whipped Cream
- Add a generous swirl of whipped cream over the top of the milkshake.
- Now add your finishing touches. Sprinkle chocolate sprinkles over the whipped cream, drizzle with more chocolate sauce or caramel sauce, and add a few extra chocolate pieces.
- For an especially indulgent version, place a small scoop of chocolate ice cream on top before adding the final toppings.
Step 7: Serve Immediately
- Add a tall straw and serve the freakshake immediately while it is cold and creamy.
- Because the toppings are heavy and the whipped cream can soften quickly, this is a dessert best enjoyed right after assembling. Keep a spoon nearby for grabbing all the chocolate and candy pieces from the top.

This Extreme Chocolate Freakshake is definitely not an everyday, ordinary milkshake. It is a dessert made for chocolate lovers who enjoy going all in. From the creamy chocolate base to the melted chocolate glass, candy pieces, marshmallows, whipped cream, and finishing drizzle, every part adds another layer of indulgence. The recipe is quick enough for a spontaneous sweet craving but dramatic enough to serve at a party. Grab your tallest glass, pile on the toppings, and do not be afraid to make it ridiculously chocolatey.
